Question 1

What are walking holidays in Spain?

Accepted Answer

A walking holiday is a trip where walking is a central part of the experience. Depending on the trip, this can involve multi-day routes, organised accommodation, guided walking, luggage logistics and time spent exploring destinations on foot.

Question 2

Where is the best place for a walking holiday in Spain?

Accepted Answer

There isn't one answer. Spain offers very different walking experiences depending on the region. Andalucía is particularly suited to people looking for Mediterranean coastline, mountains, historic towns, food and a warm climate. It's also where Maverick Adventures currently operates its Camino del Sol walking retreat.

Question 3

Are walking holidays in Spain suitable for solo travellers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Organised small-group walking holidays can be particularly well suited to solo travellers because the group naturally spends significant time together throughout the experience.

Question 4

What is the difference between guided and self-guided walking holidays?

Accepted Answer

A guided walking holiday generally includes someone leading the route and group. A self-guided holiday gives you greater independence and responsibility for navigating the route. Maverick Adventures combines organised logistics, a founder-led experience and a strong social element.

Question 5

Are walking holidays in Spain difficult?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the route. Spain has everything from relatively gentle coastal walks to demanding mountain routes. Camino del Sol covers 66km over five days and requires a reasonable level of fitness.

Question 6

What should I bring on a walking holiday in Spain?

Accepted Answer

This depends on the route and season, but comfortable walking footwear, suitable clothing, sun protection, water and a small day bag are good starting points. Participants on Maverick adventures receive specific preparation information before their trip.

Question 7

Who are walking holidays in Spain for?

Accepted Answer

Walking holidays can work particularly well if you want an active trip, enjoy travelling slowly, want to meet other people, or would rather experience a destination than simply sightsee through it. You don't need to be an experienced hiker. The right trip depends on the route, distance and terrain.

Question 8

Can I join a walking holiday in Spain on my own?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You don't need to know anyone else before joining a Maverick adventure. Most people come alone, and meet lifelong friends.
